Altria Group, information about the company
Altria Group formerly called Philip Morries Companies Inc, is one of the largest American transnational companies.
It sells mainly food, drink and tobacco.
It owns the world-renowned brand Malboro through Philip Morris, as well as 25% of AB Inbez (beer). Altria bought Kraft Foods (food) in 1988. In 2000 it acquired the Nabisco company (cookies, chocolates and candies). In January 2003, Philip Morries Companies changed its name to Grupo Altria.
Altria has been restructured, separating itself from its food and beer businesses. Consequently, a new company, Kraft Foods, was created for the food business.
Altria now comprises a group of companies related to the marketing of tobacco products in the United States and financial services.
Marketing of Philip Morris products outside of the United States is handled by a wholly independent company: Philip Morris International, based in Switzerland.
